Three Apart is a narrative sound installation based on the multi-layered story of Samantha Smith, a 10-year-old American who was officially invited to the Soviet Union as a guest of Yuri Andropov in 1983. During her travels, she received a lot of media coverage and was seen as “Goodwill Ambassador” in both the Soviet Union and the US, whose bilateral relations at this time were in a constant low. The work takes Samantha‘s story as starting point for a shared moment between the spectators. The installation is experienced by 3 persons at a time.

The work is a further development of the installation I Andras Hand which was made in Teaterhuset Avantgarden in Trondheim Norway earlier the same year.

Actors: Johanna McDonald & Mark Maher
